DAY 1
[Read: 1 John 2:3–6]
NIV:
“We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, ‘I know him,’ but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
MSG:
“Here’s how we can be sure that we know God in the right way: Keep his commandments. If someone claims, ‘I know him well!’ but doesn’t keep his commandments, he’s obviously a liar. His life doesn’t match his words. But the one who keeps God’s word is the person in whom we see God’s mature love. This is the only way to be sure we’re in God. Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived.”
[This Should Make You Really Pause]
Anyone can say they’re a Christian. A lot of people do.
But John says, if you claim to know Jesus and don’t live like Him—don’t obey what He’s said—you’re lying. Not just confused. Not just struggling. Lying.
This is where real division comes in. Because when someone truly walks with Jesus and someone else is just wearing the name, their values will clash. You’ll feel the difference.
The Bible says that lukewarm Christianity isn’t real Christianity at all. Jesus says He’ll spit out the lukewarm (Revelation 3:16). That’s not a scare tactic—it’s a call to check if your faith is actually alive.
Obedience doesn’t earn God’s love—it reveals you’ve actually received it. The fruit of the Spirit isn’t a bonus feature. It’s evidence that God’s love is in you and doing something.
[Think About It:]
Why do you think John calls out people who claim to know Jesus but don’t live like Him?
Have you ever sensed a difference between someone who truly follows Jesus and someone who just talks the talk?
[Reflection:]
Is your walk with Jesus more of a label or a lifestyle?
What’s one thing you say you believe—but struggle to live out?
[Go Deeper:]
📖 Matthew 7:21-23 – Jesus says not everyone who says “Lord” will enter the kingdom.
📖 Revelation 3:16 – “Because you are lukewarm… I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
📖 Galatians 5:22-23 – The fruit of the Spirit: what does a life surrendered to God look like?
[Action:]
Pick one area where you’ve been coasting or pretending. Confess it to God. Then talk to a trusted leader or friend about how to take one step toward real obedience this week.
